Chicken and Aloo gravy - Kerala style.

  • Chicken 500 Grams(Cut into medium sized pieces)
  • Onion 1 Nos
  • Potato 2 Nos(Medium sized)
  • Ginger Garlic Paste 2 Teaspoons
  • Kashmiri Chili Powder 1 Teaspoons
  • Coriander Powder 3 Teaspoons
  • Garam Masala 1 Teaspoons
  • Water 3/4 Cups
  • Curry leaves few To Taste
  • Oil 5 Tablespoons
  • Salt some To Taste
  • Red Chili Powder 1 Teaspoons(To Marinate)
  • Coriande Powder 2 Teaspoons(To Marinate)
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 Teaspoons(To Marinate)
  • Ginger-Garlic Paste 2 Teaspoons(To Marinate)
  • Vinegar 1 & 1/2 Teaspoons(To Marinate)
  • Salt some To Taste(To Marinate)


  • Wash and peel potatoes and cut it into medium cubes.
  • Mix all the ingredients to marinate.
  • Add little water into it and make it to a paste.
  • Marinate the chicken pieces and mix well.
  • Add half of sliced onion, cubed potato and ¾ cup of water.
  • Pressure cook the same. (Go for 1 whistle and immediately remove the cooker from the stove. Open the cooker once steam goes completely)
  • Heat oil in a pan and add sliced onion and curry leaves and sauté till it becomes brown.
  • While the onions turns brown add ginger garlic paste, all spice powder, salt and sauté for another minute.
  • To this pan add whole contents of the cooker and bring it to boil.
  • Cook under lid in the pan in medium flame for 6- 8 mins or till gravy becomes thick and oil starts clearing on the top.
  • Add 2 Tbsp of oil on the top.Serve hot with appam, chappati etc
